The unit back plate is 10"x 10" with a rounded front that protrudes forward only 4.5 inches. The streamline design draws in cold air from the bottom and convects out the hot air out the top.  The internal heat shield keeps the bottom and front only warm and the external heat shield disperses the heat and protects the ceiling.
